The Sokoto State government recently made it an offence for children to abstain from school. This is good but there is need to analyse the case. Does the state have sufficient resources to make this policy work? Do all parents have the financial capacity to support their children? I would urge the state government to provide all the necessary educational materials and there should also be sufficient and qualified teachers in public schools to make it effective. Also, this policy should be considered by the federal government and assessed if it could be made national to promote literacy, reduce poverty, unemployment and social vices.
