Theatre Commander Operations Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, yesterday said unscrupulous persons who do not want an end to insurgency have been assisting Boko Haram insurgents to run smoked fish business to generate fund to prolong their unholy activities.
Adeniyi, who made the remark while destroying four vehicles of smoked fish and hides in Maiduguri, vowed that the military shall fight anyone pretending to be a trader in disquise to boost Boko Haram’s economy.
“Many Nigerians have been wondering how Boko Haram get their finance, how they have been on for so many years, well I am not disputing that there may be people contributing financially to the course.
“Boko Haram has illegal funding and one of them is fishing. People from free or liberated areas buy fish to sell, so Boko Haram has an economy and is generating funds,” he explained.
