The Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate, Senator Rufai Hanga (NNPP, Kano Central), has called on politicians to embrace the culture of loyalty, emphasising that a lack of loyalty is a primary cause of intra-party crises in Nigerian political parties.
Hanga made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja, after receiving a Legislative Leadership Impact Award at a ceremony organised by NASSnews.
“Lack of party loyalty among members breeds crises within parties, and by extension, in the polity,” he stated. “I urge politicians to treat the issue of party loyalty with greater seriousness.”
Reflecting on his long political career, Hanga continued, “My loyalty to party membership and leadership since 1978 has been my greatest asset. I’ve been in politics for a very long time and am very experienced. As long as I agree to belong to a party, I should be loyal and set an example for those who come after us.”
