Cross River State has established a job placement  centre where unemployed graduates and skilled youths can  source for jobs.  

The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports  Comrade Asu Okang disclosed  this in Calabar. He said that it was an innovation to ensure that the state garner the potentials of the unemployed youths into one pool for easy placement in available jobs.  

He said once jobs have been sourced, the office would  help finalise the procedures, adding that they would open a dedicated online page for curriculum vitae of job graduates in the state.  

According to him, the government intends to make the centre a stopover centre for employers, corporations and government agencies that require professionals and graduates from the state.  

“The government has placed the bill for the establishment of the job placement centre before the state House of Assembly. Already, it has passed the first reading. We will ensure speedy passage of this bill, so that the centre can become functional.  

“ The centre comes with a Trust Fund which we hope will help subsidise training schemes for the unskilled youths, grant revolving loans to those graduates and youths that want to establish small businesses.   

“The centre will give career counselling, facilitate access to jobs in corporations, government agencies and enterprises. We shall also stage Job Fairs from time to time. All these will help us fill Cross River quotas in many firms and federal jobs,” Okang said.  

The commissioner also informed that the centre will be formally commissioned by the state governor on May 29, 2017 to mark his second year in office.
