She said that the Inactivated Polio Vaccine is an injectable vaccine given to children from age 14 weeks to 49 months in a single dose.
She called on mothers who have children within these age bracket to take their children to the health facility for the vaccine, adding, that it would only be administered at the health facility.
Permanent Secretary, Community/Primary Health Care, Dr. John Odok, disclosed that Cameroon had recorded six cases of wild polio virus early this year, and that the Inactivated polio Vaccine is being flagged off in three States which include; Cross River, Yobe and Borno being border states with Cameroon as preventive measures.
Dr. Odok further disclosed that in May this year, immunization exercise was being carried out in all communities bordering with Cameroon in the state adding, that the inactivated polio vaccine is another measure aimed at the complete eradication of polio as it has a higher ability to generate immunity against the virus.
