The Cross River State Police Command has arrested the prime suspect in the alleged murder of a 45-year-old man, Egbegi Elegbo Enya, in Igbo Imabana village, Abi Local Government Area.
The incident, which has unsettled the rural community, reportedly occurred around 10.30pm on April 10, 2026, and was reported to the police the following morning by the deceased’s elder brother, Egbe Elegbo Enya.
A statement on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Akata, said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was attacked with a machete by one Emereze Gabriel Okoro, who reportedly acted in concert with other accomplices.
Acting on the report, detectives visited the scene, evacuated the body and deposited it at the General Hospital, Itigidi, for preservation and autopsy.
Akata said security operatives subsequently tracked down and arrested the prime suspect, who had fled after the attack.
The command said it had launched a manhunt for other suspects linked to the killing, vowing to bring all those involved to justice.
Police authorities assured residents that no effort would be spared in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the incident.
