Personnel of the security department of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), most of them casual staff, protested 18 months unpaid salaries and locked up key offices of the hospital Friday morning for several hours.
As a result of the action, key management staff including the Chief Medical Director, Professor Thomas Agan were locked out.
Agan was said to be having a meeting with the striking workers, and had promised to speak with journalists much later on the issue.
Patients and medical personnel were equally stranded as they could not access to the facility.
