Odey made the disclosure in Calabar at this year’s Essay Writing Competition and scholarship award ceremony, bankrolled by Senator Prince Bassey Otu.
He said that having consistently sponsored the scholarship programme annually for high school children, Senator Otu has built a strong foundation for the future generation in the education sector.
Odey expressed his delight at the success of education in Cross River State, saying that the state has recorded excellent performance in national competitions.
He said: “For me, capacity building starts with this kind of programmes. We should try and build our manpower through the educational sector for our children.”
He urged other stakeholders to emulate Otu.
During this year’s award, Otu awarded scholarship to three outstanding secondary school students who took part in his 3rd edition of Essay Writing Competition 2014.
Represented by Itaya Asuqou Nyong, Deputy Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, Otu said the essay competition was organised to promote academic excellence among secondary students in the state.
He promised to sustain the competition launched in 2012.
