Government of Cross River State has asked the Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) to resume street cleaning and evacuation of refuse in major streets and towns in the state following Governor Ben Ayade’s increasing dissatisfaction with performances of private refuse contractors.
He has therefore terminated previous contracts entered with the contractors.
The governor’s anger aggravated last week when he concluded a tour of the metropolis where he noticed that the neatness Calabar and other towns in the state were known for has been defeated.
He had given the contractors an ultimatum to improve on the sanitary condition of the metropolis with the view to restoring its rightful status as the cleanest and greenest state in the country which they failed.
He was completely disappointed at performance of evacuation by the firms.
“Some months ago, I saw this situation and I am here again only to find out that the condition has not changed. It is an indication that they have done nothing over the situation. It is obvious that there is too much politics in government, this is not something we should do politics with; we must remain committed to the realization of our vision of growing a clean and green state.
