In a bid to support Cross River State Governor Sen. Bassey Otu’s vision for a cleaner and healthier environment, Hon. Theresa Akwaji Ushie, Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area (LGA), has officially launched a monthly sanitation exercise aimed at transforming the local community.

The flag-off event, which held yesterday, marked a significant step towards fostering environmental sustainability, disease prevention, and overall public health. It brought together a wide cross-section of stakeholders, including community leaders, business owners, and representatives from various organizations, all united by a common goal: to maintain a cleaner Bekwarra.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ushie underscored the importance of collective action in achieving the goal of a cleaner community.

“This initiative is not just about sanitation, it’s about safeguarding our future. Cleanliness is key to preventing the spread of diseases, protecting our environment, and enhancing the quality of life for our people,” she noted, urging residents to actively engage in maintaining their surroundings.

The event also saw the participation of Mr. Edward Omang Idiege, Supervisor for Environment, and his team, who were instrumental in distributing waste bins across strategic locations in the area.

According to Hon. Ushie, the initiative seeks to encourage proper waste management practices and foster a culture of environmental responsibility among the people of Bekwarra.

The Chairman, reiterated her commitment to the People’s First agenda, as championed by Governor Otu, and emphasized that the monthly sanitation program is a vital part of the administration’s broader mission to maintain a clean Cross River State.

“This is just the beginning. Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous Bekwarra for all,” she concluded.
