The FCT Coordinator of the organisation, Ibecheole Julius who made the call at a media briefing to mark this year’s World Immunization Day, said active involvement of the CSOs would improve immunisation uptake in the communities, as well as minimise the lingering barriers that had hindered people from accessing immunization services, particularly children from 0 to 5 years.
He said the World Immunization Week which witnessed a sensitization outreach conducted in Tungan Maje community of Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, was aimed at encouraging and sensitizing nursing and pregnant women as well as community members on the importance of immunization.
Ibecheole, who is also the Project Director, Elohim Foundation, identified lack of trained manpower resulting in unnecessary time being spent by the beneficiaries, uneven distribution of personnel, due to poor coordination as well as lack of storage facilities as part of the challenges in the entire process of immunisation.
