The federal government has been urged to proscribe armed killers as a terrorist organization as was done in the case of IPOB in 2017.

In a statement, the Executive Director of Civil Rights Amnesty Watch, Isaac Kamala, insisted on the urgency of such measures to buttress the seriousness of what we have at hand.

“These killers are nothing but terrorists, they are beyond tolerance, rule of law and humanity and deserve to be treated as terrorists like anywhere else in the world. The government must rise up to responsibility. This is the opportunity to justify government’s previous decisions that proscribed IPOB, an organization that was pursuing self determination using a less violent approach.

“We call on the Nigerian Government to protect the citizens and work out modalities that restores confidence in the sanctity of human life for Nigerians

“While working out the modalities to bring an end to the genocide in parts of the country, the government must activate the machinery required to resolve the innocent citizens.

“The people don’t have to be left on their own, self defense is a natural resort for all human humans but the government has a constitutional duty to protect the citizens and must rise to the occasion.”

The body highlighted the need for composure, cooperation, diplomacy and sacrifice by leaders as critical to the restoration of lasting peace to the people.

“We have observed that affected state governments have demonstrated resilience considering the magnitude of what is confronting them urging state governors to cooperate to confront this monster as a people.”
