The Leadership Center for Civil and Post Trauma Rehabilitation has called on President Bola Tinubu to exercise his presidential prerogative to review the latest promotion list released by the Nigerian Army.

In a statement dated November 28, 2025, and signed by the Centre Secretary, Dr. Manzo Abubakar, the organisation said it had noted the newly released list “with concern,” particularly regarding the number of officers elevated and the distribution of promotions across the country.

The group expressed worry that promoting 27 Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major General, despite vacancies created by recent retirements, could lower morale among officers who expected to be considered. According to the organisation, promotions remain a key incentive for personnel serving on multiple security fronts.

The Centre referenced recent disciplinary actions within the military, noting that some officers had previously complained about stalled career progression. It argued that the latest promotion cycle presented an opportunity to address such concerns.

It also compared the exercise with those conducted by the Navy and Air Force, saying the smaller services appeared to have filled more of their available senior-level vacancies.

The group further urged the government to prioritise welfare and motivation for military personnel, especially as Nigeria continues to confront security challenges nationwide. It also appealed for what it described as a more balanced promotion spread across the country’s geo-political zones.

“The affairs of members of the armed forces must be handled with utmost care,” the statement said, adding that a fair promotion process was important for sustaining morale and strengthening national security efforts.

The Centre called on the President, as Commander-in-Chief, to intervene and ensure what it described as “equity, justice and fairness” in the promotion of senior officers.
