A coalition of 28 civil society organisations has dismissed allegations leveled against the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr. Adamu Abubakar, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Executive Director of Karlos Community Development and Empowerment Initiative, Comrade Abdulsalam Sani, the groups said the claims were “circulated by faceless individuals” with the sole aim of tarnishing the image of the newly appointed head of the Council.

“Since assuming office barely two months ago, Dr. Abubakar has consistently demonstrated commitment, vision, and leadership in advancing Nigeria’s agricultural transformation,” the statement read. “We find these allegations entirely without merit, grossly misleading, and clearly driven by ulterior motives.”

The organisations noted that Dr. Abubakar had not been indicted by any investigative body, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and described the insinuations as “speculative, reckless, and a smear campaign.”

They urged the public, media, and relevant authorities to disregard the allegations, warning that such campaigns of character assassination undermine the credibility of national institutions.

Reaffirming their confidence in Dr. Abubakar’s leadership, the CSOs encouraged him to remain focused on his mandate of strengthening agricultural research, innovation, and productivity in the country.
