Dr Olaopa said Taylor’s appointment could not have come at a better time than now that Nigeria is driving its broadband plan vigorously.
He spoke in Abuja at the just concluded CTO Broadband Forum hosted in Nigeria by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Answering questions from reporters, the Permanent Secretary believed Taylor would use his wide ICT experience in both the public and private sectors to move the organization and Nigeria’s ICT sector forward.
Olaopa commended Unwin and his predecessors for the integration of ICTs to foster development in Nigeria and in the member states.
He urged the organization should evolve a collaborative strategy that will ensure that all member states put policies that drive broadband penetration across the country. He said: “I can assure you that Nigeria has a road map and has commenced the implementation of ubiquitous broadband infrastructure.
He said: “The choice of Nigeria hosting this meeting is remarkable to me, because it is a significant coincidence that the beginning of the CTO broadband forum today coincides with the conclusion of the exercise by the CTO Council to appoint the next Secretary General of the CTO who is a Nigerian.”
He added that this is of great significance for the country as it will in no measure accelerate the deployment of broadband across the country.
