Death toll in the cult clash between rival groups in Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State has risen to seven, Daily Trust gathered.
Police in the state said they have arrested 58 suspects in connection with the incident.
It was gathered that the fight which started last week Wednesday is between the Aiye and Jurist confraternities.
It was learnt that four persons were hacked to death at Iyakpi, while one was killed in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako-West Local Government Area of Edo State between Thursday and Sunday night.
Among those killed on Sunday night were; Sikiru Jeliu and one Irale Obas, said to have recently completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
A source said two other persons were killed on Monday night.
Sources said the clash was triggered by the killing of a brother to the leader of one of the groups.
Speaking on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirmed the incident, saying 58 suspects had been arrested.
“For now it is not wise to tell you that the figure of those killed is five, six or seven, because we are still gathering information as regards the clash and it could still increase within the next one hour.
“We have arrested a total of 58 suspects and we are searching for more. As soon as we get them we shall bring them to justice,” Chibuzor said.
