Masked men suspected to be rival cult members have murdered a notorious cultist, identified as Nasir Isiaka, in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

City and Crime reports that Mr Isiaka, 40, was gruesomely killed on Sunday evening at the Gbanasa area of Owo community.

The deceased, who had been on the “wanted list” of the police, was killed a few days after five persons, including a nursing mother, were murdered in the community during a cult related clash.

A gory photo of Isiaka’s corpse with his face disfigured, ostensibly from a gunshot wound, was circulated on the internet on Monday.

Recall that governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had declared a curfew on Owo after he sued for peace in the community.

But confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations (PPRO), in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya said the deceased was murdered by two masked men, who are currently on the run.

Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya said that Mr Isiaka, although, had been on a watch list of the police over his alleged involvement in violent crimes in the state.

She also stated that the deceased had, during the End SARS protest, along with his group, attacked Uso Police Division in the local government and stole one AK-47 rifle and bulletproof vests belonging to the police.

The PPRO further disclosed that Isiaka was also involved in the murder of one Adedeji Rafiu, also known as “PA,” in the area.

“The command can confirm the murder of one Nasir Isiaka, aged 40 years, a notorious cultist who has been on the police wanted list.

“The police at A Division Owo today (Sunday) received a distress call that someone had been shot at LA, Gbanasa area of Owo by two masked men.

“On getting to the scene, the police discovered that the deceased was a cultist who participated in the End SARS protest, attacked the Uso Division and stole an AK-47 and bulletproof vest belonging to the police. He also participated in the killing of one Adedeji Rafiu, aka PA.

“His remains have been deposited in the mortuary by the police; efforts are underway to apprehend the men behind the mask,” she added.

Owo, the hometown to late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has been in the eyes of the news following the renewed cult war between confraternity members in the community.

Many residents have now continued to leave in palpable fear over attacks and killings by the armed groups amid the curfew declared by the state governor.
