A final year student of mechanical engineering department in the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu was attacked by armed cult members on Monday.
The student, whose name was withheld for security reasons, was badly beaten and dragged on the floor by the cultists.
The student narrowly escaped death because one of the gun-wielding cult members had pulled the trigger but the cartridges did not fire.
An eye witness said the reason for the attack was yet to be determined adding that “we just saw three teenage boys beating the student severely before they dragged him on the floor to a place where they intended to shoot him. The attack was in one of the classrooms used by the final year students.”  
Another eye witness said the cult members pointed their gun at their victim’s head but when it refused to produce any sound, two of them continued beating the boy while the other tried to fix the gun.
She said, “When they realized that the gun was faulty and they had wasted so much time without achieving their aim, they abandoned the boy in a pool of his blood.”
There was confusion around the scene as students scampered for safety, she added.
