Gunmen suspected to be cultists, on Sunday, killed three people and abducted many others in an attack on Olokuma community in the Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
A resident, who pleaded not to be named, said the attackers were believed to be loyal to a notorious cult leader known as ‘General Crocodile’ from the Greenlanders cult gang.
The assailants, he said, arrived in the community in a commando-style around 6pm on Sunday and fired guns indiscriminately.
This caused panic among residents, with many fleeing to safety in the bushes to avoid stray bullets, the source said.
He said one victim’s lifeless body was recovered after being shot by the cultists while efforts were on to locate and recover the bodies of the other two victims.

He said the motive behind the attack was suspected to be a reprisal by the armed gang due to intensified police efforts against cultism and violent crimes in the area.
When contacted for comment, the spokeswoman of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to investigate and provide further information on the incident.
