Cultists kill shop owner over refusal to sell cigarettes

Five suspected cultists have reportedly killed a shop owner for refusing to sell cigarettes to them.

Daily Trust gathered that residents of Gaa Akanbi area in Ilorin now live in fear and have deserted their homes over the killing of the shop owner in the area even as the police were reportedly combing the area in search of the suspects.

The victim, our correspondent learnt, was shot in the head by one of the suspected cultists’ gang members and that he died instantly.

It was also gathered that the cult gang had stormed the cigarettes shop to buy some but which the victim replied was not available. 

One of the suspected cult members was said to have pointed to the cigarette inside the shop, to which the victim replied had already been sold.

The victim was said to have further told the suspected cultists that the owner of the cigarettes was even on his way to collect them.

At this point, one of the suspected cultists who was said to be more desperate for the cigarette got angry, pulled out a gun and shot the cigarette seller in the head.

It was further gathered that while the victim lay in a pool of blood, the suspected cultist who shot him went inside the shop, took the cigarette pack before they fled the scene.

The spokesman of Kwara State Police Command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, when contacted confirmed the incident.

“I learnt that there was a killing in Gaa Akanbi area yesterday night. We are investigating the incident” he said.
