The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Kaduna has arrested five persons with two trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice concealed in maize bags.

The suspects were also nabbed with vegetable oil, one bullet proof Land Cruiser 2019 model, one Hilux and a Toyota Corolla vehicle worth a total of N183 million Duty Paid Value (DPV).

Speaking yesterday, shortly after taking journalists round the seized items, the Comptroller FOU Zone ‘B’, Sarkin Kebbi, said smugglers take advantage of the porous borders in connivance with some officials of NCS to perpetuate their crimes.

“Some of our officers have turned themselves into informants to the smugglers who have lots of money to offer them but we have also devised modalities through intelligence gathering and it is yielding results,” he said.
