The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service yesterday said it has intensified effort at ensuring that one of its officers abducted by some gunmen is freed.

The officer identified as Rasheed Andulsalam, was allegedly kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be smugglers at Sango Otta, Ogun State a forth night ago.

Though, his abductors were yet to establish any contact with both family and management for ransom, the authority in charge of the unit said it was confident that the victim would soon be rescued.

It was gathered that the abducted officer was on anti-smuggling operation along with other customs operatives in the area when their team was attacked.

“We are yet to receive any information on the whereabouts of the officer since the incident happened. We are still hoping that the kidnappers will say something on ransom but they have not said anything about it,” an impeccable custom source said.

The source disclosed that no fewer than eight suspects have so far been arrested by the police in Abeokuta, Ogun State, based on information gathered from the Customs Intelligent Unit (CIU) in connection to the abduction.

When contacted, the Customs Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah, said efforts were on to secure the release of the officer.
