No fewer than 30 bags of 25 kilograms size each of Indian Hemp have been intercepted by the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). 

The Controller of Customs in the state, Sani Madugu who made this disclosure while handing over the seized drugs to the State ommander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Bala Fagge at the Customs Office, Abeokuta, on Wednesday. 

The Controller said that his command would not relent in its efforts to prevent smuggling of prohibited goods with a promise to continue collaborating with sister agencies to archive the desired objectives. 

Giving account of how his command got the drug intercepted, Madugu said, “My officers mounted surveillance along Imeko /Ilara border axes on a tip off for days. 

“We were following the traffickers’ movements from Republic of Benin, using vehicles and motor cycles intermittently to deceive people. 

“On sighting officers at Imeko area, they fled into the bush leaving their goods and a motorcycles,” Madugu disclosed. 

The State Commander NDLEA, while receiving the seized items disclosed efforts so far made by the Command in curtailing the activities of illicit drug consumption, as he expressed appreciation to the NCS for the interception. 

Fagge said that over Three tons of such drug have been mopped out of the circulation in the last six months by the Agency, while about 90 persons arrested are facing prosecutions. 

He appealed to other security agencies to collaborate with NDLEA to check the influx of hard drugs into the country.
