The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has deployed more men to patrol the Badagry waterways, which led to the recovery of 22,500 litres of petrol allegedly siphoned from ruptured pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The seized petrol was allegedly stored in 79 jumbo size nylon bags.
The Comptroller of Seme Area Command, Bello Jibo, said the operation is part of the command’s efforts to suppress illegal activities of smugglers of petroleum products and also to prevent the entry and exit of items that could compromise the security and economy of the nation.
Jibo said while on patrol, officers intercepted 79 sacks of items suspected to be petroleum products at Oloko creeks along Badagry-Seme road.
“After successful evacuation of the seized items to the command premises where examination was conducted, 750 jerrycans of 30 litres each of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) equivalent to 22,500 litres were discovered,” he explained.
Also, the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone B Kaduna, said it has intercepted 650 sacks of adulterated engine oil and 132 sacks of AGO ( Diesel) in Kaduna State.
The FOU Zonal Comptroller, Albashir Hamisu, who stated this yesterday said the products were intercepted around Maraban Jos on December 20, 2021.
Hamisu said the products were handed over to the representative of the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation.
“We have handed over 650 sacks of adulterated motor oil and 132 sacks of AGO (Diesel) to NSDC representatives because we are confident they will do their official work,” he said.
