Customs intercepts smuggled rice, bales of second-hand clothes

Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) yesterday displayed five vehicles loaded with smuggled rice intercepted along Katsina/Kano road by men of the Comptroller-General Compliance team (CGC) in line with its enforcement strategies.
Addressing newsmen in Kano, head of the compliance team Comptroller Ahmed Abubakar Azarema stated that, in the process of enforcing compliance men of the service intercepted the vehicles with about 500 bags of smuggled rice along Katsina to Kano routes.
Furthermore, the Service in Sokoto has seized 349 bales of second hand clothes with a duty paid value of N17 million.
It also intercepted 52.2 kilograms of “Skonk” which is a special brand of cannabis while being transported to Abuja.
Addressing newsmen, the Area Comptroller, Alhaji Nasir Ahmed said the clothes were intercepted along Tambuwal-Aliero road while the illicit substance was seized along Illela road.
