The Area Comptroller, Nigerian Customs, Area II, Onne, Rivers State, Aliyu Galadima Saidu, has expressed concern that despite dire consequences of smuggling on the economy and development, some Nigerians still find joy in perpetrating what he described as “evil act.”

Saidu spoke in Onne while displaying impounded goods such as military wares, food items, machetes and others worth N543 million to Journalists. He said smuggling posed a high threat to both the economy and security of the country, adding that those involved in such acts are economic saboteurs. The comptroller said those involved in smuggling engaged in false declaration to evade the correct duty payment, describing the perpetrators as destroyers of the country’s economy.
