The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), under the leadership of Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, has flagged off the Green Border Day for the South–South and South–East regions in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event forms part of the ongoing COWA Green Borders and Sustainability Initiative (CGBSI), which is advancing environmental restoration and resilience across border and coastal communities.
In a statement by COWA yesterday, the activities in Port Harcourt featured tree planting, community sensitisation, environmental clean-up exercises and direct engagements with residents of border and maritime areas.
Speaking at the ceremony, the COWA national president stressed the strategic importance of Rivers State as a border and maritime hub, noting that environmental protection in such regions is essential for national security, economic stability and community wellbeing,
She highlighted several achievements recorded under the initiative, including “the successful National Sustainability and Green Borders Summit in Abuja; the conduct of Green Border Days across multiple border communities nationwide; and Nigeria’s participation in COP30, among others.
Mrs Adeniyi reaffirmed COWA’s commitment to strengthening partnerships, empowering women and youth and supporting ongoing efforts to restore border ecosystems.
