The Nigeria Customs Service Task Force, Zone ‘B’ has seized 4,334 pieces of tramadol and pankizol in Niger State, Deputy Comptroller, Abdullahi Kirawa, has disclosed.

Kirawa, who is the national coordinator of the task force, told journalists in Minna that the truck bearing the illicit drugs was intercepted by the task force along Minna/Suleja road.

The drugs with a duty value of N43 million, were concealed among the various items which form the consignments the truck was conveying.

The task force was set up in March 2018 with the mandate of complementing the efforts of all the commands in preventing leakages and other anti-smuggling activities.

Kirawa said the task force arrested the driver of the truck who was later granted administrative bail, adding that effort to arrest other culprits was on.

He said the task force also seized 733 bags of 50kg of foreign rice valued at over N11. 5 million smuggled into the country through the borders.

Other items seized, he explained, included 110 bundles of 330 used tires; 18 bales of second hand clothing; one used Volvo truck with duty paid value of over N4,000, 000; one J5 bus with duty paid value of N1,360,000 and one used Pontiac Vibe with duty value of N648,000.

He said the total seizure within 2018 by the task force for the zone was N61,459, 500.

He assured that the strike force would continue to strategise aimed at enhancing its performance even as he urged the general public to avail it information that would curb smuggling across the nation’s border.
