The Nigeria Customs Service has stated that it will map out a framework targeted at financing Nigeria’s green border project to ehance sustainability and reduce the effect of climate change in the country.
Comptroller General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi made the disclosure in Abuja on Thursday at the COWA Sustainability and Green Borders Summit 2025 organised by the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA).
In his remarks, Adeniyi stated that Nigeria is now actively involved in shaping how the world thinks about Customs and the borders after assuming leadership of the World Customs Organization.
He said, “The Green customs is a priority area in our strategic plan amd we will partner COWA to bring sustainability and development to our border areas by supporting women running small recycling initiatives in our border communities which is exactly the work we want to do and also integrate in our policy.”
COWA President, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi noted that border communities have been forgotten corridors for a long time as over 70 per cent of border communities lack access to basic amenities.
