Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command, Lagos are currently on the trail of those behind the importation of a 1×20 feet container loaded with fake fire resistant cables.

It was gathered that the fake cables were imported into the country from China.

The fake fire resistant cables were valued at about N20 million.

Since the container was impounded by the operatives, both the importer and his agent have allegedly disappeared.

Custom Area Controller, Lami Wushishi while speaking in Lagos, said that the command was determined to bring those behind the import to book.

She also noted that those behind the importation are determined to destroy the nation’s manufacturing sector, wondering how could it be said goods imported into country from China could be labeled “made in Nigeria” boldly written on it.

Comptroller Lami Wushishi revealed that both the importer and the agents are currently on the run, adding that they have refused to show up for the goods.

She said that the importer and the agents took to their heels when they realized that the lid had been blown open.

She noted that the importer had criminally declared the cables as regulator, making false declaration.

“The cable is imported into the country from China and still had on its packaging, Super Kendrashmat Nig Wire and Cable. The electrical product since it does not have any form of accreditation or documentation from any of the approved federal government product regulatory agencies, necessitated the seizure of the container by the command.

“The items were discovered by the eagle eyes of our men during screening. The owner falsely declared it as regulator but during screening, it was discovered to have contained fire resistant cables. In view of this, the command hereby hand over the said container to officials of the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) for its proper disposal as directed by the customs and exercise management act cap C 45 LFN 2004 section 67(2).

“While handing over the said container to official of SON for laboratory analysis said only recently in the month of June 2017, the command hand over seized pharmaceutical products to NAFDAC for proper disposal,” she said.

Wushishi however, insisted that the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal of the Nigeria Customs Service would continue to maintain good inter-agency relationship with other sister agencies in the bid to enforce compliance of fiscal policies while promoting trade facilitation.
