Detectives of the Nigerian Customs Services attached to the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, have recovered goods worth over N183million  after  a fierce gun battle with suspected smugglers in Lagos and Ogun State.
The controller In charge of FOU Zone, A, Umar Mohammed Dahiru, who made this revelations in his first quarter report said some of the smugglers who engaged  his men  in a gun battle sustained severe injuries.
He disclosed that  42 suspects were also arrested in connection with the seizures, while  about 141 different types of rice, totaling 8,148 bags of 50kg parboiled rice and 50 bags of 25kg with Duty Paid Value of fifty three million, were recovered.
The duty paid value of the entire bags of rice,he said, stood at about N53,124,500.00 million.
“Similarly,  about 112 different types of imported frozen poultry products, totaling 20,742 cartons with Duty Paid Value of N112. 007 million were recovered.50 different types of Vegetable oil, totaling 2,519) kegs of 25 liters, 24 kegs of 10 liters, 140 cartons of kings oil, 1,250 empty kegs with Duty Paid Value of Eighteen Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty Eight Thousand, Four Hundred Naira (N18,788,400.00) only” ,he said.
He said that the command remains focused on the task ahead, noting that smugglers like the proverbial bird that has learnt how to fly without perching, custom operatives have also learnt how to shoot without missing.
Meanwhile,the  Customs Controller in charge of the, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Umar Mohammed Dahiru has disclosed that operatives of the unit arrested about 44 units of different vehicles being smuggled into the country by criminals.
Comptroller Dahiru, who put the value of the vehicles arrested at about N87.210 million, vowed to take the war to the door step of suspected smugglers.
He revealed that the criminals had attempted to smuggle the vehicles through unapproved routes in Lagos and Ogun States respectively.
