Magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Ojo Adebayo, at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged defilement.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, told the court, yesterday, that the defendant committed the offence on October 8, 2021, in Ilogbo-Ekiti.
Inspector Adejare, alleged that the defendant defiled a nine-year-old girl who went to fetch water for her grandmother.
He said while coming back, the defendant saw her and asked her to follow him to his house to get something for her grandmother.
The prosecutor said the defendant forced her into his room and locked the door and while the victim was shouting for help, he used his hand to cover her mouth and forcefully defiled her.
Adejare said the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Right Laws of Ekiti State.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional centre, pending legal advice from the DPP and adjourned the case until November 15, 2021.
