Dad, uncle arraigned over defiling of daughter in Niger

A 35-year-old man, Stanley Eze, and his 32-year-old brother, Obina Eze, of Anguwan-Kadara, Maitumbi area of Minna, Niger State, have been arraigned before a Minna magistrates’ court on charges bordering on unlawful sexual intercourse and incest with an 11-year-old daughter of the senior Eze.

According to the police report, Mrs Loveth Eze, the mother of the victim, reported to the police on March 26, that her husband, Stanley Eze, had sexual intercourse with their daughter twice in 2020 while they were in the village in Enugu State and also in Maitumbi, Minna.

Mrs Eze also informed the police that her brother-in-law, Obina Eze, lured the same girl to a room in their house at Maitumbi on February 27, this year while they (parents) were not at home and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her, adding that he thereafter had sexual intercourse with the victim on several occasions.

When the charge sheet was read to the accused, they denied the allegations, after which the prosecutor, Sergeant Ogiri Emmanuel, called the mother and the victim to testify.

The suspects were remanded at the Minna Correctional Centre and the case adjourned to July 7.

An Iyaganku magistrates’ court sitting in Ibadan, on Monday, ordered the remand of a 40-year-old man, Abideen Akinbola, in the Agodi correctional facility for having canal knowledge of his daughter.

The Magistrate, Mr S.H. Adebisi, who did not take the defendant’s plea due to lack of jurisdiction, ordered that he be remanded pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) and adjourned to July 11.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Gbemisola Adedeji, told the court that the defendant, between January and May, at Alaje village, near Akanran, had unlawful sexual intercourse with his daughter. (NAN)
