The Media Trust Group’s flagship publication, Daily Trust Newspaper, has won the Outstanding Media of the Year presented by the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineering Students Affiliate (NIEESA), the students’ arm of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE).
The award, presented on Wednesday, was received by the Media Trust’s acting regional manager, Lagos, Mr Taofeek Oyeniyi, during NIEE’s annual public lecture.
The National Chairman of NIEE, Engineer Nureni Ogunyemi appreciated the work of the media in spotlighting the role of the institute, emphasising the critical role of environmental engineers in achieving food security.
He stressed the need to unlock homegrown strategies, saying it can bolster food security.

He said: “It is imperative that we, as engineers, step up with innovative and sustainable solutions. Environmental engineering plays a vital role in ensuring a balanced ecosystem where agriculture thrives in harmony with nature.”
The 12th National Chairman, NIEE who doubles as the National Grand Patron of NIEESA, Engineer Olalekan Ajani, also stressed the need for modernising food production through technology, citing the advancement in Canada, Singapore and the Netherlands.
Oyeniyi thanked the institution for acknowledging the efforts of Media Trust, assuring of continued quality reporting.
“We appreciate the institute for recognising our effort. We keep doing our best to educate the readers,” he said.
