Daily Trust Board of Economists’ Chairman loses Mother
Hajiya Zainab Yahaya, mother of Dr. Shehu Yahaya, Chairman of the reconstituted Daily Trust Board, has passed on at the age of 95.
In a statement by the Secretary of the Board, Dr. Vincent Nwanma announced that the deceased has since been buried in Zaria.
“We regret to inform you that our Chairman, Dr. Shehu Yahaya, has lost his beloved mother at the age of 95 years. She was laid to rest in Zaria.
“On behalf of the Board, we extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Yahaya and his family during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace,” the statement said.
Hajiya Zainab Yahaya (also known as Hajiya Abu) was born in Zaria, into the family of Malam Muhammadu Sani, who was himself a merchant and well-travelled.
“She received early education in the teachings of the Qur’an in Zaria. Upon the completion of her education and in line with her family’s tradition, she was married off to Malam (Alkali) Yahaya Muhammadu Lawal, the son of Wazirin Zazzau Muhammadu Lawal.
“Late Hajiya Zainab was known for her enormous patience, generosity, charity, and humanity. She will be remembered for her kindness and constant remembrance and compliments to Allah, and her particularly caring love for both immediate and extended family. During most of her lifetime, young children from far and near often trooped to her home to collect charity both in cash and in kind on a daily basis. She also extended the same gesture to orphans and the less privileged in her community.
“Hajiya Zainab never turned down a request for assistance. One of her most cherished values was to share and give out in charity.
In total, she had eight (8) children, 46 grandchildren and dozens of great grandchildren.
“However, she was survived by her children Justice Abubakar Yahaya, Dr. Shehu Yahaya, Hajiya Fatima Yahaya, and Hajiya Zainab Yahaya” the statement further noted.
