With the official tee-off of the tournament by Senator Kabiru Gaya, who represented the Senate President David Mark, hundreds of golfers began fierce competition for laurels in the categories 1, 2, 3, veterans and ladies.
It was a beehive of activities as kit-bearing cadies and the players thronged the club for registration, just as spectators and officials have taken positions in order to be part of activities going on.
Receiving the guests and participants at the event, the Chairman/CEO of Media Trust Limited, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, who was represented by a director of the company, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi, expressed delight with the impressive turn out of the dignitaries and participants.
The Managing Director/COO of Media Trust Limited, Mr Isiaq Ajibola, who earlier warmed up his club to participate in the tourney, was unavoidably absent. The General Manager of the company, Aliyu Akoshile, is however taking part in the tournament.
Speaking shortly before the tee off, Senator Gaya said he was impressed with the caliber of golfers Media Trust LTD has assembled in the ancient city to participate in the tourney.
He said the tournament would go a long way in uniting Nigerians and as well as contribute to the development of sports in the country.
According to him, the tournament would also help develop the skills of the players and also contribute to the development of the century-old Kano golf course.
While commending the sponsors’ commitment to their corporate social responsibility, Senator Gaya urged other corporate bodies to be committed to nation building.
“Apart from sports development, I learnt Daily Trust is also helping the orphanage. The newspaper is faring well in news reporting as it’s impossible for somebody to buy newspapers without including Daily Trust,” he said.
The manger of the club, Mr Adeyemi Adeniyi also expressed appreciation with the level of the turnout, saying players were ‘coming in from many parts of the country’.
Adeniyi said the tournamnet was going smoothly as planned owing to the pre-event arrangement by the sponsors and the club.
“We planned everything accordingly and we’ve not recorded any hitch throughout today,” (yesterday), said the manager.
