Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust, Saturday and Sunday Trust, Aminiya and Trust Tv has sought partnership with the Edo State government on the Daily Trust proposed golf tournament in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Speaking on the proposed tournament in Benin yesterday during a meeting with the Edo State Sports Commission, Media Trust General Executive Director, Business Development, Ahmed I. Shekarau, said Daily Trust had hosted two golf tournaments in the past and that it is proposing its third golf tournament in Benin City.

“We are proposing a one-day golf tournament in the southern part of Nigeria and we are proposing Benin City for the event to hold either on November 26 or December 3, 2022, subject to the state government approval”, he said.

Represented by the Head, Business Development, Naomi E. Eaezobor, he said Daily Trust is organising the tournament to enhance the Daily Trust brand visibility (as a media outfit) and also boost Edo State government tourism and investment drive.

“Daily Trust is a strong and well-known brand and Edo State can actually leverage on our visibility in terms of tourism and investment drive”.

“Golf is a major attraction for people and golfers of different backgrounds, So hosting the   golf tournament in Benin City would help promote tourism and investment drive, which Edo State government embraces so much.

According to him, Daily Trust sees golf as an interesting game that can also bring opportunities for networking as it would also attract investors who are also coming for the tournament.

“The tournament would bring people from the northern and southern region, which we feel Edo will embrace and bringing the game to Edo State would afford the state government the opportunity of networking.

Speaking for the Edo State government, the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission, Sabina Amiemenoghena Chikere, said they have listened to the proposal and would get back to Daily Trust.

“Daily Trust wants to organise a golf tournament in Benin City and also wants to partner with the state government.

“We have listened to their proposal, we are going to report back to the state government and we hope that something good will come out and then we would partner with them.

“So whatever the government says we would relate to Daily Trust and hopefully we look forward to having something to do with Daily Trust”, she said.
