I want to join millions of well-wishers to congratulate, appreciate, commend and pray for Daily Trust, for surviving 20 years despite all the odds. This paper which started in Kaduna has now grown to become one of the biggest papers in Nigeria today. I therefore appeal to all Nigerians to support their efforts to continue giving us real, intensive and reliable journalism. We must note that journalism plays a very big and vital role in the society.
To be candid, no society can truly develop without journalism. Therefore, government should support and encourage the media industry, especially at this time when information is being distorted by many people on the social media. Journalists are the ones who give the true picture of events in the society. They also make contributions to enable peaceful co-existence, political stability, mutual understanding, unity and progress. The traditional media should not be neglected instead it should be encouraged.
Daily Trust should not relent but keep the ball rolling with fair, balanced and unbiased reportage. The staff and management should note that in the course of carrying out their duties, they could be distractions but they should remain focused.
You all deserve applause for all you have done and the many great things that you will do in future. I urge other journalists and media outfits to emulate Daily Trust. They should be fearless in the discharge of their duties and should make sure that all stories are balanced. I pray that God continues to bless staff and management of Daily Trust and they will continue to grow from strength to strength.
