Malam Abdu Zango, the father of the Opinion Page Editor of Daily Trust newspapers, Yusuf Abdu Zango, has died at the age of 92.
He died in Katsina on Saturday and was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Speaking with our correspondent, Malam Yusuf Zango said the third-day Fida’u prayer for their father holds today in Katsina. He described the deceased as a dedicated Muslim who lived a life of service to humanity.
Born in1929 at Zango town, Malam Abdu had studied at Zango Elementary school, Katsina Middle school, Katsina Elementary Teachers School, Katsina Higher Elementary Teachers School, Kaduna Polytechnic and University of Manchester, UK.
From 1951, he had variously taught at and rose to become Chief Adult Education Officer before he retired in 1987 and thereafter became Permanent Commissioner, Civil Service Commission in Katsina State for 10 years. He was at different times the Board Chairman, Katsina State Agency for Mass Education, Vice Chairman/member caretaker committee, Zango local Government, among other positions. He left behind 18 children and many grandchildren.
Similarly, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Atiku, the father of Daily Trust’s Librarian, Haruna Ibrahim, died on Monday, December 21 and was buried yesterday in Ibadan in accordance with Islamic injunction.
The deceased lived for many years in the Sabo community of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Popularly known as Ibrahim Na-Iddo, Haruna said their father died at the age of 91, leaving behind nine children and many relatives.
He was a cattle dealer in Ibadan during his active years.
“He was a lover and advocate of education who ensured that all his nine children were educated to a certain level. He was a man of peace, selfless and a loving father,” a statement from the family said.
In a condolence message, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Media Trust Group, Malam Ahmed I. Shekarau, speaking on behalf of the Board and Management of the company, said the two nonagenarians lived fulfilled lives.
He prayed to Allah to grant the deceased Aljannatul Firdaus and their families the fortitude to bear the losses.
