Gimbiyar Dakingari was crowned at a time the health sector in the state is totally and completely grounded. Health workers in the state had, for several weeks, been on strike over the refusal of the state government to pay them some of their entitlements. So many patients in the state died due to the failure of the health sector to provide them with the required medical care. We all believe that the issue of the strike action should occupy the minds of a serious governor rather than how his wife should be crowned with a traditional title.

But may we ask, who sponsored that ceremony and how much did it cost the state government and why was public funds committed? Thanks to our respected traditional and religious leaders who noticed the dangerous way the planned coronation of the Gimbiyar Dakingari was going and the negative remarks spreading within the state that made them to rush and plead with the health workers to withdraw the strike action and allow the coronation to hold. That also brings us to the issue of the story making the rounds in the state over the decision of former governor of the state and one-time Minister of the FCT, Alhaji Adamu Aliero, who withdrew his intention to contest as Senator under the PDP, but later decamped to the CPC.

Aliero has drawn very wide condemnations from some PDP stalwarts and supporters of Governor Dakingari in the state. But Aliero’s reasons were very clear. Aliero maintained that he cannot be a party to a government that does not have the interest of the people at heart. He has made it clear that he cannot join a group who so much believe in promoting and encouraging the enslavement of the teeming masses in the interest of a few minority.
