Ever since the commencement of the project, however, there has been interruption in the supply of water to the university community, particularly hostels. Water tap hubs have become one of the busiest spots on campus where students strive to ‘catch the worm’ as soon as water gushes from the taps, a situation that sometimes results into brawls among them as to who fetched first.
More worrying is that the water usually comes in brown colour which raises concern over its hygiene. Though, the school management has advised that the water be boiled before consumption, many students take no heed.
Unfortunately too, students who already cannot afford three meals per day now face an uphill task of making provision for purchase of water in their budget.
Also, comfort zones (toilets) become an eyesore whenever there is no water which is why some students now call them ‘discomfort zones’.
Shortage of water and it’s below par quality, when available put the health of students at risk. Therefore, as the semester is at its tail end, the management should take effective measures to ensure adequate supply of water to the hostels before the commencement of the new session. Similarly, the quality of the water has to be improved so as to safeguard the health of students.
