Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to China, Abdurrahman Bello Dambazau, has vowed to prioritise Kano’s economic interests and strengthen Nigeria-China relations, declaring that he is ready to sacrifice personal comfort to deliver results.
Dambazau made the declaration in Kano during a reception held in his honour following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This posting is not for me; it is for all of us. I want my tenure to be remembered for tangible achievements that will benefit Kano and Nigeria,” he said.
He described Kano as the most important centre of trade and commerce in Nigeria and across West Africa, noting that the state maintains extensive business ties with China.

According to him, his mission is to ensure that these ties translate into greater economic gains for the country.
Dambazau disclosed that his appointment came as a surprise while he was performing Umrah in Makkah, when he received a direct call from President Tinubu informing him of the decision.
“I was not expecting it. I had moved on with my life, but when the call came, I accepted it as a duty to serve,” he said.
The former army chief, who also has a background in academia, acknowledged his limited experience in business and China but said he would rely on the knowledge of Kano traders and stakeholders.
“Most of you have been doing business with China for decades. I will depend on your guidance so that we succeed together,” he added.
He assured that he would dedicate himself fully to the assignment, describing it as a full-time responsibility that demands commitment and sacrifice.
“I will deny myself comfort if necessary because I want Kano and Nigeria to benefit from this opportunity,” he said.
In its goodwill message, the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) described Dambazau’s appointment as well-deserved, citing his track record in public service.
The chamber urged him to facilitate the establishment of Chinese manufacturing companies in Nigeria to reduce costs and boost industrial growth.
It also called for stronger collaboration with China in renewable energy development, particularly in solar and wind power, to address Nigeria’s energy challenges.
KACCIMA expressed confidence that Dambazau would strengthen bilateral relations and advance Nigeria’s economic interests during his tenure.
