Dandume market moves to new site

The Katsina State Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Salisu Gambo, has urged all stakeholders of Dandume market to prioritise the development of the facility for business growth and improved revenue generation.

He made the call when he visited the market’s new site at Dandume which was opened last week.

The commissioner commended the leadership of Dandume LGA for the effort in making the relocation of the market to its new site possible, adding that “the administration of Governor Aminu Bello Masari is always after projects that have direct bearing on people.”

Earlier, the Sarkin Kasuwa, Malam Nasiru Nalado, thanked both Katsina State and Dandume local governments for relocating the market to the new site after unsuccessful appeals and lobby to past administrations.

“The people of Dandume are indeed grateful to this administration for making the long awaited relocation of the market to its new place a reality. The development will certainly boost the revenue of the LGA and the state especially now that more merchants from within the country and abroad can access the market with their trucks easily,” Nalado said.

When Daily Trust went round the market merchants from far and near were seen transacting business with what they described as greater ease as the new market is more spacious and accommodates all the sections including many trucks and other vehicles.

Alhaji Hamisu Dawanau, a maize merchant said Dandume market has now got a new lease of life to actualise its full potentials.

“Many merchants found it hard to load their trucks on market days due to tight space at the old market. They had to wait a day or two after the market day to access their goods. Now with the new spacious site business activities are smooth and everybody is happy,” Dawanau said.

He added that very soon the market will grow bigger than what many expect.

Dandume market is one of the big markets in Katsina State that deal mainly in agricultural produce ranging from assorted grains, tubers, fruits and vegetables.

This reporter learnt that the commodities in the market are mainly supplied by peasant and medium scale farmers from the nooks and crannies of Dandume LGA, Faskari, Sabuwa in Katsina State, Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State and some parts of Zamfara State.

Similarly, some of the businessmen also come from Kontagora and Bida in Niger State, Keffi in Nasarawa State, Saminaka and Soba in Kaduna State to buy and bring assorted commodities to the market.
