Electric power upsurge has continued to pose serious threat to users of electricity in recent times. Available statistics from Fire Fighters Magazine indicate that two third of fire outbreaks in Nigeria was in one way or the other attributed to upsurge in power. One of the victims of the kind of accidents was the 80-years – retiree in Osogbo who lost her house of residential house to an inferno caused by electronic power surge (Daily Trust November 1, 2019).

Since electricity is one of the essential necessities of modern life that we cannot do without, carefulness is required for users to avert the inherent danger that often associated with its usage. Among the safety measures is to ensure that all power appliances are switch off whenever power supply is cut off by the distribution company and when out of home or office. Equally important in ensuring safe use of electricity, in using high quality wires and engaging the service of certified electrician to do the wiring.

Indeed, stakeholders in fire safety like the fire service and electricity distributing companies must intensify public enlightenment on how to prevent fire outbreaks due to upsurge of electricity in Nigeria especially now that harmattan has set in.
