The Dangote Cement Plc, Gboko Plant, on Monday awarded N28.8million in scholarship cheques to youths from its six host communities in Benue State as part of its Community Development Agreement (CDA) aimed at promoting sustainable economic empowerment.
Head of Social Performance of Dangote Cement, Gboko Plant, Dr. Johnson Kor, made the disclosure during a presentation ceremony in Gboko, while explaining that the intervention aligns with the five-year CDA signed in December 2024 between the company and the six mining communities, including its host community, Mbayion.
Kor said the company has implemented several empowerment initiatives under the agreement, including women, farmers and youth empowerment programmes, with some projects already completed and others ongoing to improve livelihoods in the communities.
He noted that as part of the event, Dangote Cement also presented certificates and starter packs to 30 graduates of its Youth Skill Development Programme to enable them to immediately put their skills into practice and become self-reliant.
He listed other completed projects of the company, to include the commissioning of motorised boreholes in Mbaswa, Agboghol, Mbatyu and Pass Brothers communities to improve access to potable water.
The Plant Director, Dangote Cement, Gboko, represented by the General Manager, Finance, Olusegun Orebanjo, said the company views its host communities as partners in progress and remains committed to ensuring that its business operations contribute meaningfully to community wellbeing.
He assured stakeholders that all outstanding CDA projects would be executed in the coming year, noting that delays affecting some projects were due to technical challenges currently being addressed.
The event however featured the formal presentation of a N28.8 million scholarship cheque and the passing-out ceremony of youth trainees from the six host communities.
