There was jubilation in Jakura, Kogi State, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, as Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana Plant, and the Jakura community signed a landmark Community Development Agreement (CDA) that will drive social projects over the next five years.
The agreement, one of the several CDAs Dangote Cement maintains with host communities, is designed to deliver socio-economic development programmes in line with federal regulations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Plant Director, Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana Plant, Engr. Azad Nawabuddin, represented by Engr. John Gwong, said the pact was in fulfilment of Section 116 of the Minerals and Mining Act 2007 and Section 193 of the Minerals and Mining Regulation 2011.
He said the CDA underscores the company’s commitment to the welfare of its host communities.
“For us as a company, we believe in the mantra, good neighborliness is good business, hence we do everything conceivable to maintain harmonious relationships with the communities where we operate,” he stated.
Group Head, Social Performance, Dangote Cement Plc, Mr. Wakeel Olayiwola, noted that the process followed the updated CDA development guidelines and assured that implementation of the agreement would commence before year end.
Also speaking, Group Head, Health, Safety, Social, Environment & Sustainability, Dangote Industries Ltd, Mr. James Adenuga, described the agreement as a demonstration of the company’s resolve to sustain its social licence to operate.
General Manager, Social Performance, Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi, commended the Jakura community for its cooperation throughout the drafting of the agreement.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Dele Alake, represented by Mrs. Bimbo Olaoye, praised Dangote Cement as a responsible corporate citizen and urged continued peaceful co-existence between the community and the company.
Representative of the Chairman, Lokoja Local Government Area, Hon. Danjuma Muhammad Abubakar, said the people of Kogi State would remain grateful for the company’s interventions in their lives.
