Dangote Group to invest N1.5bn in sugarcane

This was disclosed recently in a goodwill message by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, who was represented by the Managing Director, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, at the opening ceremony of the 7th National Agricultural Show at Tudun Wada in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The representative stated that the group is targeting 1.5 million metric tonnes of sugar annually from the cultivation of 200,000ha of sugarcane in some states across the country.
He further stated that the group will also produce ethanol as well as animal feed from the sugarcane.    
This venture, the managing director said will create about 100,000 jobs for the teeming unemployed youths among others in the country.
Engr. Sule revealed that the Dangote Group has already invested about N60 billion in the agricultural sector of the economy in some parts of the country.
“We have invested in pineapple production and processing in Cross River State, we have invested in tomato in Kano State, and we have also invested in sugar. We don’t see agriculture as a hobby but as an opportunity and a business”, he said.
The managing director however, lamented lack of infrastructure, inconsistent government policies and insecurity challenges in the country, saying that they impact negatively on businesses in Nigeria.
