The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has said that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery increased its domestic supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to 40.1m litres per day in the month of January.

This is an increase of 8 million compared to the 32 million litres it produced in December. 

In its January report, NMDPRA said the 40.1 million produced was over 60 percent of the 75 million the company planned to supply. 

The report added that PMS consumption was 60.2m liters per day.

It however said the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited  (NNPC) and other companies imported an average of 24.8 million litres of PMS daily.

Overall, it said 64.9 litres of PMS were supplied into the market during the period.

Recall that the  Dangote Petroleum Refinery said it has reached its full designed capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd).

The refinery said the milestone followed the optimisation of its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) production block, strengthening steady-state operations at Africa’s largest oil refining facility.

The company added that it has commenced an intensive 72-hour series of performance test runs in collaboration with its technology licensor, UOP, to validate operational efficiency and confirm that all critical parameters meet global standards.

In December, it announced plans to supply 50m litres of PMS daily to the Nigerian market between December 2025 and January 2026.

The move, it said, was aimed at ensuring uninterrupted nationwide fuel availability through the festive season and into the New Year.

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, disclosed the plans during a visit by the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) to the refinery and the Dangote Fertiliser complex.

Dangote further disclosed that the refinery will make available 50 million litres of PMS daily beginning from December 1.
