Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Shehu Alhaji Musa, disclosed this at a reception organized in honour of some students of the institution who won prizes at the recent National Mathematics Competition for University Students, held in Abuja.
Professor Musa said the institution has begun negotiations with India, Egypt and Malaysia to source for the lecturers.
He pointed out that the institution has received the sum of N350m Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) intervention in addition to N1.3bn earmarked by the Kano State government in the 2014 budget. He said the funds would be spent on the completion of some major projects that include construction of students’ hostel, computer laboratory and a dual-lane road.
Also speaking, the Dean, Faculty of Mathematics, Dr. Abubakar Musa, said the faculty has a long history of winning various competitions from 2009 to date.
“Students from this faculty have been performing wonderfully at various national competitions. I am therefore urging the university to introduce special awards to any student that excels in his field of study.”
Two of the honorees, Umar Muhammad Dauda and Mubarak Ahmad expressed appreciation for the honour done to them by the institution and pledged to maintain the tempo.
