According to the organizers of the competition which is primarily aimed at finding lasting peace on the plateau, other important personalities like the Chairman of Mangu LGA, Hon. Da Moses Tansan and the ALGON Chairperson in Plateau State, Hon. Nicholas Kemi Nshe would witness the final match.
The competition which is sponsored by a sports enthusiast Alhaji Abdulhamid Panyam kicked off in August with over 20 youth clubs in the Local Government taking part.
The sponsor of the Peace and Unity Cup said the gesture is his own little contribution to the concerted efforts geared towards resolving the intractable crisis in Plateau State.
Asked what motivated him to sponsor the competition, he said: “Just Start. Just start whatever it is you know you ought to do for the Youths and for the people. The fighting and the warring won’t just go away paving the way for anyone to begin another chapter of their lives! No! We all must conscientiously work hard through even the most difficult times to create peace.
“The generality of the people are commonly peace loving and no community of people may willfully engage in the breach of the peace. Any activity engineered to deliberately engage the greater proportion of the people increases the chances of the peace being sustained”, he stated.
Panyam therefore urged all well meaning people of Plateau State to think of positive ways to engage the youths as he said the youths are the future hope and must not be allowed to waste away.
